Ok so I am scheduled for my RNY 4/19 and I just received word from St Agnes Hospital, that I need to pay $1573 by next Tuesday. I don't have that!! It is the portion that the insurance company is not paying. I know that is small beans compared to what people pay. I am really in a bind. I have applied for loans, and have not been approved, and the last thing I am considering doing is putting my car up for collateral. Does anyone have any other ideas?? I am lost!! I dont want to cancel, but as of right now, I am on the verge, and to be honest I cannot afford to waste anymore time. I have Psuedo Tumor Cerebre and my vision has started acting up again. Any ideas would be great!!

I do feel for you and am very sorry that you are faced with this situation. Have you asked the hospital to set up a payment plan ? I wonder if they would be willing to work with you ? I think it is worth a try. If I had the $$$ and did not have my own bills and stuff I would help you. I am not sure if I would risk my car for the surgery. That might be risky. Good luck I will keep positive thought heading your way.

I am sorry. You would think that they would be willing to help someone get healthy. I guess that is no longer their concern to help people. What a darn shame. I wish you well and hope all things work out for you. Take care.

I second what Julie said. You should at least try to talk to the billing department of the hospital.
Off topic......my best friend has the Psuedo Tumor Cerebre and has been told that WLS may "fix" the condition. We have searched for other people that have the condition that have been going thru the WLS process to see what their doctors have said in reference to the condition. If you dont mind me asking, what has your doc said about your condition with having WLS?

Read my profile it tells you my whole story of how I found out. I have the PTC that also greatly  affects your vision, and the only known cure is weight loss at this time. I know that it works, because I was on WW and lost weight, and the symtoms went away and as soon as I started gaining weight they came right back. My Neuro and Neuro Opthomoligist are all supportive of ths decision at this point. I had been considering it for YEARS but just never did it, and this was the last straw that made me say ok go for it. I am borderline on alot of stuff!! I suffer with headaches but thankfully right now my condition is being controlled somewhat with meds. But now the meds are starting issues so I neeed to get off them. The last appointment I was told if I do not do somethign drastic, I will begin to loose my vision. Tell your friend to message me!! My doctors are the best!!

I have pseudotumor cerebri as well. I haven't talked with my neurologist about the WLS as of yet (I haven't been to see her in a while) but she has said that I have to lose weight or else my vision will suffer. I also have almost daily headaches from it. But my doctor said that losing 10% of my weight will help my symptoms and losing 25% will cure it all together. The thing that scares me the most is that even if i gain a little bit of weight, my vision suffers! I am scheduling an appt with her soon and i'm going to be sure to ask about WLS and how it will affect my PTC. Sorry I couldn 't be more help, I was just shocked to know other people suffer from this as well (I thought I was the only one!)

Thanks for the reply. My friend has been told that a "significant" weight loss will cure her....... seems as if you were told the same. She has suffered with SEVERE headaches and vision issues too. When she first told me of this condition, I thought she was crazy & her doctor was a quack! But once I started researching it, I was amazed to see it was real! It just blew my mind! I still dont understand it, but I know she suffers greatly with it. She has had to have numerous spinal taps to take fluid off to reduce pressure...... I applaud anyone that lives with this!

oh this is the worst part... the nickle and diming.    I took a home equity loan to cover our copays...  they were so high we actually met our catastrophic deductable last year.

I second calling them and seeing if they can set up a payment plan... maybe if they get a direct debit from your account they will be willing.

Do you have credit cards you can put it on?
